How this estimate works

Repair reserve
comes first.

Microsoft recommends reserving one capacity drive per server, up to four drives, so Storage Spaces Direct can repair in place after a drive failure. The calculator applies that reserve before the selected volume resiliency and growth allowance.

For hybrid configurations, each server needs at least two cache drives for redundancy. Cache is sized for the active working set, and a multiple of the cache-drive count is recommended for capacity drives. Final designs require validated Azure Local hardware and workload testing.
